As thousands of students leave the comforts of home this weekend the general assumption will be that they’re abandoning home-cooked food for a regime of beans on toast and unhealthy takeaways.

At ASDA we meet hundreds of new students in our local stores every year and we believe today’s students demand and deserve better! Fresh, healthy food can be just as good if not better value for students than ready-made products and recipe dishes and we want to challenge students to show us just how creative they can be within a student budget.

Hug a Hub . . .
To help us, we have enlisted the help of our exclusive network of local hubs, who take on small, independent local suppliers across the UK and deliver their produce to local ASDA stores in the region. Not only do our hubs allow small suppliers the chance to reach our customers but the use of each hub as a single distribution point regionally has already reduced road miles by over 6 million, which benefits the environment too.

We’ll be promoting our hubs during Asda’s Local Week from 29th September – 5th October and to celebrate we’re launching a student cookery challenge, inviting students all over the UK to cook from scratch with local produce at fantastic value prices. Look on beyondbakedbeans.com tomorrow to find out about the great prize we’re offering and what you have to do to win it.

Over the next few weeks we’ll also be giving you some cheap, easy recipes using fresh produce direct from the people who work at our local hubs. We hope you'll give them a try.
